Your Privacy
Matters to Us
This Privacy Policy explains how RoaringShifts collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our automotive social media platform.
Last updated: November 6, 2026
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your username, email address, profile information, and any optional details you provide such as your display name, avatar, and vehicle information.
Vehicle and Build Data
Information about your vehicles, modifications, build showcases, parts listings, and related media you choose to share on the platform.
Usage Information
We record how the platform is used — which screens are opened, which features are used, and how long a visit lasts — to run and improve RoaringShifts. This is described in full in section 2, “Usage Analytics”, including how to turn it off.
Location Data
When you enable location services, we may collect location information to show nearby events, meets, and service providers. You can disable this feature at any time.
Live Location in Cruise Lobbies
Cruise lobbies show the people driving with you on a shared map. While you are in a lobby, your position is shared with the other members of that lobby — nobody else — and it is not kept as a location history after your drive.
Background sharing is off unless you turn it on. If you switch it on, your position keeps reaching your lobby while the app is closed or your phone is locked, which is what lets people driving with you still see you. It runs only while you are in a lobby, it stops the moment you leave one or switch it off, and your phone shows the system location indicator the whole time it is running.
Private areas always win. Any private area you set — around your home, for instance — is stored on your device and never sent to us. Inside one, your position is not published at all, in the foreground, in the background, or on a car display. You do not appear as “hidden” in a public lobby either, because that would itself reveal that you had arrived somewhere private.
Positions in a lobby are short-lived: they are held only long enough to draw the live map and expire automatically shortly after you stop sharing.
Communications
Messages, forum posts, comments, and other communications you send through our platform.
Android Beta Testers
If you join the Android beta, we collect the Google account email address you give us. We use it only to add you as a tester of the RoaringShifts app on Google Play (which means sharing it with Google through the Play Console testers list), to email you the Play Store invite link, and to send you updates about the beta. It is visible only to RoaringShifts staff, is never used for marketing or analytics, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by emailing help@roaringshifts.com.
Meet Reminder Emails (Without an Account)
On a meet's page you can ask us to email you a reminder without making an account. We collect only the email address you type, the meet you asked about and, if you tick the separate box, that you want emails about car meets near that meet's city. We first email you a link to confirm; until you tap it, we send nothing else. After that we email you the day before the meet. Reminder emails may also invite you to create a free RoaringShifts account or get our app. To keep a record of your consent we store when you asked, the words you agreed to, the meet, and your internet provider's network (never your full IP address). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe that stops all of these emails at once. We never sell or share these email addresses, never use them for advertising, and delete a reminder 60 days after you asked for it and the consent record 400 days after your last request. To have your address removed sooner, email help@roaringshifts.com.
Guest Passes for Meet Chats
A meet's host can send someone a guest link. Opening it in the RoaringShifts app gives that person a temporary guest pass: an automatically made name (like “guest-supra-4821”, which they may change once) and access to that one meet's group chat — nothing else on the platform. We do not ask a guest for an email address, phone number, password or any other contact detail.
The pass is a random secret kept in your phone's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore); we store only a one-way fingerprint of it. A guest pass ends 21 days after it is created, or sooner if you delete it in the app, the host removes you, or we act on a report. Messages a guest sent stay in the chat after the pass ends and are shown as written by a “Former member”; reports about them are kept for moderation as with any account. A guest who makes a full account keeps their messages and their place in the chat under the new account.
To limit abuse, we count how often guest links are used from a network address; the address is stored only as a one-way fingerprint and only for a few minutes.
2. Usage Analytics
RoaringShifts keeps its own usage analytics: we collect them ourselves, store them in our own systems, and use them only to operate and improve the service — to know whether a feature works, which ones people come back for, and where something is broken. They are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not sent to outside analytics companies.
What is recorded
- Events about what you do on the platform, such as opening a screen, viewing a meet, saying you’re going, following someone, posting, or completing a purchase. Screens are recorded as page types (for example “a meet page”), not as full web addresses.
- Which app or website you use (web, iPhone or Android), the app version, and the general type of device system (for example “iOS”).
- The approximate city, region and country of a visit, worked out from your connection by our hosting provider. We never store your IP address and never record a precise location for analytics.
- When you were last active and on which screen, so we can see how many people are using the platform right now.
Analytics never include your email, name, username, phone number, address, the text of your messages or posts, or exact amounts of money (prices are recorded only as broad ranges). Searches are recorded only as how many results they found, with one exception: a search on the meets list is shortened to a few lowercase words (anything that looks like an email, a link, a handle or a phone number is dropped) and added to a daily count of how often each term was searched. That count is never linked to you, your account or your visit.
Who can see it
Only RoaringShifts administrators, in our internal dashboard, for running the service and helping you when you contact support. Your analytics are never shown to other members. When we describe our audience to businesses or partners (for example how many members are in a region, or which cars are most common), we only ever use totals for groups of at least 10 people — never anything about an individual.
How long it is kept
Event records are kept for 400 days and then deleted automatically. Totals that cannot identify anyone (for example “120 meet pages viewed on a Saturday”) may be kept longer to show how the platform changes over time.
How to turn it off
Usage analytics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Share usage analytics, on the website or in the app; the setting applies to your account everywhere. When it is off we keep no record of your activity — only anonymous counts that are not linked to you (for example, one more meet page viewed on iPhone that day).
If you are not signed in, we record only anonymous visit activity tied to a random session code, nothing that identifies you — and nothing at all when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.

4. Information Sharing
Public Information
Information you choose to make public (profile details, build showcases, forum posts, marketplace listings) is visible to other users and may be indexed by search engines.
Service Providers
We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate our platform, such as hosting and payment processing. These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements. Our usage analytics (section 2) are kept in our own systems and are not shared with analytics companies.
Business Partners
With your consent, we may share relevant information with verified automotive businesses, event organizers, and service providers to enhance your experience.
Aggregated, De-identified Insights
We may share, license or sell aggregated, de-identified insights with businesses and partners — for example how many members in a region drive a certain make, which modifications are most common, or how car-meet attendance changes by season. These are statistics about groups, built only from totals for groups of at least 10 people, and they do not include your name, username, email, phone number, exact location, plate or VIN, messages, or anything else that identifies you. We keep this information in de-identified form, we do not try to re-identify anyone from it, and we require anyone who receives it not to try either. Because it cannot identify you, it is not a sale or sharing of your personal information.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights, or to ensure user safety and platform integrity.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Access controls and authentication requirements
- Secure hosting infrastructure and backup systems
While we implement strong security measures, no system is 100% secure. We recommend using strong passwords and keeping your account information confidential.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Account Control
- Update or correct your profile information at any time
- Control the visibility of your builds, parts, and activity
- Manage notification preferences and communication settings
- Delete your account and associated data
Data Access
- Request a copy of your personal data
- Ask for correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Object to certain data processing activities
Location Services
You can enable or disable location sharing through your device settings or account preferences. Disabling location services may limit some platform features.
Background sharing in Cruise lobbies has its own switch, in the app on the live map under your own driver card. Turning it off there stops it immediately and removes you from the map; you can also revoke the permission entirely in your device settings.
Your Privacy Choices and “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”
On Your Privacy Choices (linked at the bottom of every page, and under Settings → Privacy choices when you are signed in) you can switch each of these on or off: usage analytics, personalised ads, the sale or sharing of your personal information, use of your precise location and of your vehicle details beyond the feature you are using, and marketing email. Each change takes effect immediately, and we keep a record of what you chose and when. If you are not signed in, your choices apply to that browser.
We do not sell or share your personal information. The Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information switch is your standing choice in case that ever changes. Precise location and vehicle details are never used beyond the feature you are using unless you turn that on.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and of personalised ads, for that browser and, when you are signed in, for your account.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Quebec, these optional uses stay off until you agree to them, and the ads on our public pages are non-personalised unless you have consented.
Usage Analytics
Turn usage analytics off under Settings → Privacy → Share usage analytics (see section 2). You can also ask us for, or ask us to delete, the analytics records linked to your account by contacting us at the address below.
7. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Remember your preferences and login status
- Keep a visit together for our own usage analytics (a random session code held only for the browser tab you are using)
- Personalize content and recommendations
- Ensure platform security and prevent abuse
When you are not signed in on the website and usage analytics are allowed for your browser, we also set one first-party analytics cookie, rs_vid, holding a random code (no name, email or account) so our own usage analytics can tell when the same browser comes back on another day (and, if you later sign up or sign in on that browser with usage analytics on, how many visits came before; that one link is deleted with your account); it lasts 13 months, is never set under Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track or, in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Quebec, before you opt in, and it is deleted as soon as you turn usage analytics off on Your Privacy Choices (or clear your cookies).
You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences, though some features may not work properly if cookies are disabled. We honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track for usage analytics when you are not signed in.
Advertising
Some public pages of our website (such as meet pages, city car-meet pages and guides) show ads from Google AdSense. Ads appear only to visitors who are not signed in on the website. Signed-in members and the RoaringShifts apps never show ads.
Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads to you based on those visits. We do not give advertisers your account details, and our own usage analytics (section 2) are never shared with them.
You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings, and from many other third-party vendors at www.aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for your consent before any advertising cookies are used, through Google's certified consent message. You can change your choice at any time from that message.
8. Children's Privacy
RoaringShifts is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
Users between 13 and 18 years of age must have parental consent to use our platform and should use the service under parental supervision.
9. International Users
RoaringShifts is based in Canada and operates globally. Your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada or other countries where we or our service providers operate.
We comply with applicable data protection laws and implement appropriate safeguards when transferring data internationally.

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify users of significant changes through:
- Platform notifications and announcements
- Email notifications to registered users
- Prominent notices on our website
Continued use of RoaringShifts after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
